I bought this bottle at the cellar door, when visited this great Csopak producer in July. I’m still impressed, I reckon this is one of the best olaszrizling (welschriesling) out there. Continue reading
great value
Supermarket wines: Chateau Haut Redon Bordeaux Superieur 2019
I have probably written this many times, but again, Bordeaux is one of the best wine regions offering great value reds. Probably it’s the best, considering the volume of these wines and also the reliability – I’m rarely disappointed. This Chateau Haut Redon is proving the point.
Supermarket wines – Aldi’s Csányi Villányi Shiraz 2021, a great value red
As a winelover you won’t often find a Hungarian red for 1100 HUF or 3 Euros which is worth drinking. But the Csányi Shiraz is an exception, it always delivers, and the 2021 vintage is no exception. Continue reading
Another great Beaujolais Cru from Dom. Richard Rottiers – Moulin á Vent 2021
The Brouilly 2019 last time was not my favourite wine from Richard Rottiers, but the current Moulin-á-Vent (2021) is again outstanding, the kind of wine which makes me a fan and follower of this top Beaujolais producer.
Supermarket wines – Carla Scala Governo Rosso Toscano 2019
Good white from Villány: Bakonyi Csavargó 2020
Villány is a red wine region but you can find good white wines. I would recommend to start with the Csavargó from Bakonyi…
Supermarket wines – Eszterbauer Sógor Kadarka 2020
Kadarka is difficult to grow which makes it expensive to produce, and there isn’t much of it planted. So to see this wine for just above 3 euros on shelves is a shame – a sign of hard times wine growers face these days.
Joseph Faiveley Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018

Value in Burgundy? Yes, there is such thing. Just taste the basic wine from Joseph Faiveley and you will see – actually it’s closer to premier cru than to basic wines when it comes to quality.
Nice cheap Chianti – Corte alle Mura Chianti Riserva 2015 from Lidl

When looking for value, supermarket Lidl is often a good choice. Especially some of the Italian and Spanish reds they offer. The only issue is that these are available only for a few weeks in every year, at least in Hungary, and stock runs out quickly. This Chianti is one to buy by the case for the mere 4 Euros they ask for it.
Yet another great value Monastrell: Ego Bodegas Talento Eco 2018

If you want something bigger than the Telmo Rodriguez Al-muvedre, try the Talento Ego. Different style, but same quality, and again, amazing QPR.
