Continuing with exploring easily available and affordable white burgundies, the next bottle is from Famille Perrachon. Compared to the previous one, the Cave de Viré VV, this is not a Macon but a straight Bourgogne, for the same price basically and from the same vintage. A clear step up in quality. Continue reading

Can cheap red Burgundy be good? Doudet-Naudin Macon 2020
After some search, this was one the cheapest red Burgundy I found online in Europe – admittedly I mostly looked for merchants in Germany, as they are the most reliable and they almost always deliver wines to Hungary (and at a fair price). Supermarket wines – Pierre Chanau Macon Red 2019
Some of the everyday wines I recently bought in Auchan weren’t that good (Versant Royal 2019, a Bordeaux Superior, declining, and the Pierre Chanau Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes 2020 too green and raw), but their range is still quite reliable. I enjoyed this Macon, too. Burgundy wines are hardly as cheap as this nowadays, yet it’s far better than just acceptable.
Supermarket wines: Lidl Macon-Villages 2020
Very affordable for a Burgundy, but a great value regardless of wine region. Continue reading
Joseph Faiveley Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018
Value in Burgundy? Yes, there is such thing. Just taste the basic wine from Joseph Faiveley and you will see – actually it’s closer to premier cru than to basic wines when it comes to quality.
Three serious white wines from three countries
Yesterday’s blind tasting with friends featured many good and some great wines, and this time the whites impressed me the most. My favorites were the most expensive ones in the lineup, though.
