Mee Godard is one of the top producers in Beaujolais, I was simply blown away by her wines when I quickly visited her in 2019. If memory serves, she has a Burgundian approach, she de-stems the grapes so it’s not the region’s trademark semi-carbonic method she uses. I’m not sure if that applies to her Beaujolais Villages 2022, but it’s a great wine. Continue reading

Unusual Beaujolais cru: Chateau Des Tours Brouilly Vieilles Vignes 2021
I believe this wine wasn’t fermented in the common Beaujolais way (i.e. with semi-carbonic maceration), and it’s different, indeed.
Outstanding Beaujolais Cru: Chateau Grange Cochard Morgon Vieilles Vignes 2015
Pierre-Marie Chermette Griottes 2022
Georges Duboeuf Julienas 2020
Supermarket wines: Pierre Chanau Brouilly 2020
Beaujolais Cru beauty: Piron & Lameloise Moulin-à-Vent 2017
Brought this bottle to a tasting with friends, and everybody loved it. I’m not always as successful with Beaujolais Cru but this time it really shined. It reminds me to the 2019 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette, by the way. Continue reading
Supermarket wines – Pierre Chanau Macon Red 2019
Some of the everyday wines I recently bought in Auchan weren’t that good (Versant Royal 2019, a Bordeaux Superior, declining, and the Pierre Chanau Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes 2020 too green and raw), but their range is still quite reliable. I enjoyed this Macon, too. Burgundy wines are hardly as cheap as this nowadays, yet it’s far better than just acceptable.
Another great Beaujolais Cru from Dom. Richard Rottiers – Moulin á Vent 2021
The Brouilly 2019 last time was not my favourite wine from Richard Rottiers, but the current Moulin-á-Vent (2021) is again outstanding, the kind of wine which makes me a fan and follower of this top Beaujolais producer.
Solid Beaujolais Nouveau – Pierre-Marie Chermette Griottes 2021

I have been buying Pierre-Marie Chermette’s Griottes every year since 2015. Partly because it’s one of the very few Beaujolais Nouveau available in Hungary but also because it’s quite reliable and simply delicious. Continue reading
