Mee Godard is one of the top producers in Beaujolais, I was simply blown away by her wines when I quickly visited her in 2019. If memory serves, she has a Burgundian approach, she de-stems the grapes so it’s not the region’s trademark semi-carbonic method she uses. I often read that Beaujolais Cru ages surprisingly well, but on the contrary I mostly find that they develop relatively quickly – tasting mature and tertiary as a 5 years-old wine. But this isn’t one of those cases.
Can a Beaujolais Nouveau be still good in the following summer? Surely it can – at least the better ones from serious producers.
Definitely not your easy-drinking Beaujolais.
Brought this bottle to a tasting with friends, and everybody loved it. I’m not always as successful with Beaujolais Cru but this time it really shined. It reminds me to the 2019 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette, by the way. Continue reading
