Drinking young chianti? Podere di Marcialla Chianti 2021

Sure, the simplest supermarket chiantis might be totally approachable after two years (as they should be, like Aldis 2021 which is at its best now), but buy a bit more serious one and you might regret opening it so young…

Textbook chianti made in an old school, angular style. The aromatics are already appealing but the finish is hidden behind drying tannins, it needs a few years to soften a bit. Dried tomatoes, salami meet ripe dark fruits on the nose, accompanied by a typical tire-like note, which I really like. It’s lean and sinewy, the structure dominates the palate at this point – clearly not an early drinking wine but one built to last. Unforgiving ATM, don’t open before 2025. 85 points for now, and perhaps 88-89 in a few years’ time. 9-9.6€, stockist is Vinello and more in Germany, Italy.
