Supermarket wines: Aldi’s San Zenone Chianti 2021

I could simply repeat what I wrote about the previous vintage of this wine. A humble, cheap little wine, but expressive and delicious, I love it.

It might be simple but it’s a complete wine. Pure, perfectly balanced and authentic, tastes exactly how a chianti should taste (at the entry level). Dried cherries and figs, a touch of leather, the nose oozes Tuscany. Dry on the palate, light yet has enough structure with the trademark austerity of sangiovese gently delivered. A good, enjoyable everyday quaffer. 84 points. Drink now – 2024. Great value for 1650 HUF (€4.5). Stockist is Aldi.
