I could only repeat what I said about the 2017: the Clos de la Roilette is a benchmark for Beaujolais Cru. This 2020 is a rockstar. Continue reading

A beauty: Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette 2017
Daniel Bouland is one of the top names in Beaujolais, and rightly so I would say. I tasted his 2017 Morgon Corcelette next to Dorli Muhr’s Samt & Seide Blaufrankisch 2017, and while the Austrian is really very good, the gamay is just a more complex wine.
Torus Madiran 2015
I quite like tannat from Madiran, be it blended or pure, but sadly drink them rarely. This wine is a reminder I should do that more often…
Best value – Pierre Chanau Macon 2019
A superb supermarket Burgundy from Auchan. Isn’t it enough to say that I went back to buy more after tasted it? Continue reading
Richard Rottiers Brouilly 2019
A Brouilly from one of my favorite Beaujolais producers, Richard Rottiers. This is new to me, I only remember tasting Moulin-á-Vents from him, which I found superior to this one… Continue reading
Joseph Faiveley Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2018
Value in Burgundy? Yes, there is such thing. Just taste the basic wine from Joseph Faiveley and you will see – actually it’s closer to premier cru than to basic wines when it comes to quality.
A favorite of mine: Cote Mas Rouge 2019
Super, super little red from Languedoc. It’s the rare case when I’m 100% satisfied with a wine.
Simple pleasures – Lidl Bordeaux Superieur 2018
Wines like this make me think that Bordeaux is one the most reliable and best value producer of red wines in the World.
Alain Jaume Les Gélinottes Ventoux 2019
I loved the 2016 vintage of this wine, mostly when it was in its primary state, though (2016 Southern Rhone reds quickly went into a dumb phase in my experience, see also here). The 2019 is good, but not on the same level.
Stéphane Montez Syrah 2018
A Northern Rhone Syrah from an emerging region, Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes. Promising but I’m not fully convinced.
