New wave kadarka: Sauska 2023 from Villány

The previous vintage of this kadarka was partly aged in oak, but in 2023 they only used amphora and Clayver – I’m happy to see that such a big producer moved to a more transparent style. In fact I never tasted a red from this address that I loved this much.

Hardly darker than many roses and it’s equally light on the palate – but it has layers. It’s about nuances and refinement. Red currants and rebarbara on the nose, the slightest hint of reduction makes the fruit less obvious. Fragile and silky on the palate, absolutely seamless, and while it’s easy to drink and not really structured, there is enough tension and complexity to make an impact. A beauty, 90 points. Drink now, no point in holding it. 12,0%
