Mee Godard is one of the top producers in Beaujolais, I was simply blown away by her wines when I quickly visited her in 2019. If memory serves, she has a Burgundian approach, she de-stems the grapes so it’s not the region’s trademark semi-carbonic method she uses. I’m not sure if that applies to her Beaujolais Villages 2022, but it’s a great wine.
This is an unusually serious Beaujolais. It has typicity, yet it’s different, more savoury and more structured. Darker fruits on the nose, like black cherries and blackberries, a bit of blood; it’s very spicy but without oak notes. It’s structured, with ripe, firm tannins and good acidity, the balance is great – it drinks well already, although feels like one made for the long term. As captivating as many Burgundies and nebbiolos. 90 points, highly recommended. 24€, if you can find it. Drink from now – 2030.
