Wakefield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
An Australian cabernet that does not try to emulate Bordeaux, yet it’s not overdone at all. Clare Valley rarely disappoints…
Supermarket wines: Barcelino 2020 from Lidl
Cheap Spanish wine is getting nicer these days. It’s less common now to bump into fake ones tasting like oak chips or sweet and ripe New World wannabes. Nouveau time – Bock Portagéza 2023
The best Hungarian nouveau wine I believe I’ve ever tasted. Not by miles and it’s a tiny competition, yet it’s still a real achievement.

Supermarket wines – Gál Szőlőbirok és Pincészet Chardonnay 2022

Siller benchmark: Tüske Panni 2022
It seems like siller, the light red style popular in Hungary in the old days is finally getting better. I have never tasted such good examples as this year, and this Tüske is also an improvement compared to its 2020 vintage I posted last year.
Hungarian nouveau: Vylyan Bogyólé 2023
Vylyan Bogyolé is ususally the first wine I taste from the current year, it pops up earlier than even Beaujolais Nouveau. For the first time (AFAIK) it’s a pure zweigelt.
