The Heimann family just announced that their “Heimann & Fiai” label (which represented a new lineup of contemporary styles) is now integrated into the main brand “Heimann”, as the new generation takes over the winery. And I just realised that I have not yet posted about the current release of their kadarka, even though it is one my favourite Hungarian red wines – just like previous vintages were, like the 2021 and the 2022.
The 2024 is a great success – it was the hottest growing season in Hungary’s history I believe, with probably 1,5 months of heat around and above 35 Celsius. High alcohol wines are the result in most cases, but the Heimann Kadarka comes in at only 11,5% and it’s nicely balanced. It looks like a proper cool climate red, with fresh red fruits and some whole bunch spiciness, including black pepper and some herbal notes. It’s light in body with a silken texture and a good intensity of flavour. It’s seamless, pure and has tons of personality, a certain traditionalist style re-interpreted in the new era feel, that I often get in the wines of Dorli Muhr. 89 points, 5500 HUF (14,90€ at borstore.de).
