How is the new release of one the most well-know Hungarian light red wines, the Sebestyén Indigó? 2024 was a heatwave vintage like no other before, at least in Hungary, but perhaps in most of Europe. It shows in the wine but it still manages to be refreshing, luckily.
There is something special about the lower level of alcohol (11,5% here) which makes this one work. Even though the aromatics are a bit baked in this hot vintage, it’s refreshing on the palate with a beautiful balance and grace that cannot be achieved with elevated ABV. Lovely acidity, not less, not more than what’s needed. A pretty, delicious mid-week red. 100% zweigelt. 86-87 points, highly recommended. 3350 HUF or 8 EUR at Bortársaság.
