Supermarket wines: Teleki Kékfrankos 2019, a nice one

Teleki is one of the most widely available entry level wine brand in Hungary, made in big quantities and available at every corner. Everyone knows it, this is what many regular wine consumers identify with quality wine and with villányi (Villány is kind of Hungary’s Barossa). I’m happy to say that it’s actually really nice!

It might be simple but it’s authentic and drinks well. Clear Villány character here, the style is lovely, traditional Old-World. It’s not a crowd pleaser but real, savoury red wine, spicy rather than fruit-forward. Hungary’s version of a basic chianti, if you will. Balanced and round, hardly medium-bodied but has good intensity of flavors. A well made, lovely entry level wine which I would happily enjoy on weekdays.
