Supermarket wines: Pierre Chanau Plan de Dieu 2021, a solid Rhone red

I had a bad experience with the 2017 of Auchans Plan de Dieu, but this 2021 is quite the opposite. Rock solid for the price.

A beautifully made wine. Doesn’t really have concentration but it has finesse, purity and tension. A more delicate take on a Southern Rhone cru, with Burgundy-like fineness. Refined texture with crunchy tannins, there is a new wave feel about it. Just a touch of alcoholic heat on the finish, to remind you this is the Rhone. My cup of tea, 10/10 in its class (as an entry level red). 88 points. Drink now (-2025), great value at 8 Euros.
