Just a bit different – Bodegas El Grano Carmenere, Chile, Vallée de Curico

Such a nice wine. Unmistakably Chilean, but tastes unforced – a nod to the Old World. Amazing clarity, you cannot find an off note here, yet it does not feel “made” or adjusted, as opposed to many of the country’s reds. Loaded with sweet, ripe black currants, and there is this diesel fuel thing going on, the hallmark of Chilean reds for my nose. So smooth, it’s silk to your palate. Lowish acid and tannin, which adds for the current drinking pleasure. At it’s prime, no reason to put it away in the cellar.

Rating: a good to very good red, 87 points.
Price: 10 Euros (bought at Vinatis)
Value: I would buy it again.
Drinking window: now-2020.
