The entry level, under 10 Euro Sangiovese called Pater is such an amazing rendition of the variety that I wanted to try a bit more serious version from the producer. But this Nipozzano Riserva 2017 turned out to be a disappointment.
Closed with Diam, I don’t suspect any cork issues, but the wine is unshowy and underwhelming. Muted, a bit earthy, old school. You can recognize that it’s a Chianti, but the flavors are quickly gone, it feels empty on the finish, not leaving much else than a drying sensation. Not a bad wine, but far from what I would expect at this pricepoint – I enjoyed many cheap supermarket Chiantis more than this one.
Rating: OKish, 83 points.
Price: 13-15 €.
Stockist: xrtaWine and many others throughout Europe.
Tasted: March, 2021.
Value: but the Frescobaldi Pater 2019 instead – at least I would do that.
