Burgundy isn’t the most reliable wine region when it comes to quality, but I’m often surprised how good affordable reds can be from there – even these days. We are talking about wines from bigger, less widely known producers, of course. They often deliver classically proportioned pinots for 10-15€, just like the Paul Delane 2023 reviewed months ago on this blog. Here is another nice one for 14€ which I liked a lot.
Vignerons de Bel Air Bourgogne 2024
A bit shy and not really complex, but every bit a classic Burgundy. A pretty, savoury nose with well-handled, subtle oak, dark fruits but also some strawberry notes. Delicate on the palate, as one expects from a pinot, but finishes firm and structured, as it should. Nuanced, pure and so refined that it already drinks well at this early stage. Authentic and very well made, 88 points. Highly recommended, 14€ at Vinatis. Drink now – 2031.
