I’m not a fan of the 2021 vintage in Hungary, but interestingly it’s a completely different story for Dorli Muhr, just outside the country border. Its her best so far I was told, and when she presented a mini-vertical of her Prellenkirchen Samt&Seide a year ago in Budapest, it was indeed the 2021 which impressed me the most.
Now, that the wine is finally available in Hungary (stockist is Radovin) I wanted to take a second, closer look – while it developed a bit in the meantime, I loved it just as much this time.
The Dorli Muhr wines have a very distinct style and that’s what you get here. This is so savoury and charming. You get rosehips, rebarbara, black peppers on the nose, and a trademark herby tones. Pinot-like on the palate, but with the brightness and acidity of blaufrankisch. Delicate, yet complex. Nuanced, grows on you – I enjoyed every bit of the bottle. Outstanding, 91-92 points.
