I could only repeat what I said about the 2017: the Clos de la Roilette is a benchmark for Beaujolais Cru. This 2020 is a rockstar.
I’m often skeptical when I see Beaujolais Crus rated as high as some 1er Burgundy or Barolo (if not the top tier, of course), but this one delivers complexity and enjoyment on that level. Semi-carbonic maceration gives this a cheerful character, with that typical flowery, hibiscus edge and a juicy, bright nature, but it’s also very serious, dark fruited (think black cherries, blackberries) and structured. I could compare the drinking experience to drinking Barolo, I was amazed by every glass. A great wine.
