How is the new release of one the most well-know Hungarian light red wines, the Sebestyén Indigó? 2024 was a heatwave vintage like no other before, at least in Hungary, but perhaps in most of Europe. It shows in the wine but it still manages to be refreshing, luckily.

Vylyan Bogyolé is ususally the first wine I taste from the current year, it pops up earlier than even Beaujolais Nouveau. For the first time (AFAIK) it’s a pure zweigelt.

A new wave Hungarian red, there are things I love about it, but at the end, it’s just not there for me.
Hungary’s leading nouveau wine: Vylyan Bogyólé from Villány
Not much nouveau wines are made in Hungary, and from those the majority are actually white or rose. Take a look at the red ones, and you will find even less made with carbonic maceration, probably only 3-5 does exist. The most well known and widely distributed is Vylyan Bogyoló, which rules the category and really good in every vintage. The 2021 is no exception.
