New vintage of this great value entry level Bordeaux red, the Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux from Auchan’s own label series. The 2018 was probably even better, though I’m not sure – they are a bit different, showing vintage character I guess. Both very well made and enjoyable.

Best value – Pierre Chanau Macon 2019
A superb supermarket Burgundy from Auchan. Isn’t it enough to say that I went back to buy more after tasted it? Continue reading
Value from the supermarket: Lidl Negroamaro Salento 2019

Another superb budget Italian red from Lidl. At this price (£ 4.99 in UK, 3 € in Hungary) most wines are better to avoid, yet this is not just serviceable but rather good.
Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Casillero del Diablo is probably the most well known Chilean brand in the whole world. I can’t remember the first vintage I tasted, but I liked them early on, and then less and less as my palate evolved. I have not tasted any in the last 7 years or so and spotting it on the shelves of Tesco made me nostalgic for the old times.
Another solid supermarket Chianti – Tesco’s 2015
Just what I expect from a Tesco Finest wine: restrained and elegant, like the other wines in the range. If I’m not mistaken Master of Wines do the selection for Tesco, and they always pick the balanced, pure wines, not the over-oaked, over-ripe examples.
