One might expect that in most European countries there’s an abundance of basic Bordeaux and Chianti wines on the market, but Hungary is not flooded with these classic offers, unfortunately. But at least there is a good one out there, and it’s the Aldi version called San Zenone, current vintage is 2020.
When simple is good. Lovely Chianti character, it feels classic from the leather and balsamic vinegar infused tart cherry aromatics to the gently austere palate. Perfectly balanced and so Italian. A nice weekday quaffer which can accompany a variety of foods (as it’s savoury and light) but tastes just as good in itself.
