Supermarket wines: Pierre Chanau Cotes de Bourg 2021

A great example of vintage variation: compare this 2021 to the previous release of the wine (reviewed here), it will be quite obvious how better 2020 was.

12,5%. Lean and leafy, verging on unripe. Lacks the fruit power and concentration of its 2020 predecessor, but balanced and pleasant in a classical way – this is how entry level Bordeaux might tasted 40 years ago. Some blood sausage notes, it’s so savoury. Pure and easy to drink, it’s just a bit simple. 83 points. Stockist is Auchan, price: 2400 HUF (€6). Value: not good, buy the 2020 if you find it or wait for the 2022 vintage.
