It’s early days for malbec in Hungary but based on this entry level red from Bodri, it might have a future here.
Surprisingly bright and light for a malbec, almost blaufrankisch-like in comparison. Fragrant and red fruited at opening, then slowly reveals its varietal side in the form of juniper & cassis.notes. No oak, no heaviness, it’s crisp and lively, with a wonderfully refined texture. So polished, obviously skilfully made. Low alcohol and beautiful, perfect tannins on the finish. Very good (87 points) and great value for 2200 HUF (€5,7). Stockists: Veritas, Selection.
