I probably never tasted any wines made from Sardinia’s local grape variety, Monica. This one called Antigua and made by Santadi is quite pretty, I would be happy to drink this with or without food.
Quite similar to Santadi’s Cannonau (Grenache), but the aroma profile is darker and it’s a bit more tight. The same warm climate character and slightly oxidative, old school style. It just feels honest and pure. Such a pretty nose – cherries and slightly cooked strawberries, a background of licorice and some charred meat. Not long or structured, a bit soft, a tad hot on the finish but balanced and seamless. Simply delicious. Drink now.
