Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Image ~ July 5, 2023 ~ Zoltán Németi

This must be a cheap California cab if you live in the USA, however it costs more in Europe – close to 20 Euros in Hungary. A bit pricey here, but a bargain in its home I assume.  Continue reading →

Juan Gil Yellow Label Monastrell 2021

Image ~ June 26, 2023June 26, 2023 ~ Zoltán Németi
Monastrell is one of the most often featured wines on this blog, and I cannot believe I have not posted about the Juan Gil yellow label yet. An amazing wine from vintage to vintage and one of the greatest buys in the world when it comes to red wines.

Two faces of Loire Valley cabernet franc – Couly Dutheil and Domaine Grosbois

Image ~ June 25, 2023 ~ Zoltán Németi
Here is a classical example of Loire cabernet franc and another one made in a bit funky style. Both very good to great wines. Just like my previous bottles (see here, here, here and here), all rated (and liked) similarly. It cannot be coincidence, the region is on the roll in recent years.

Pretty Austrian blaufrankisch: Silvia Heinrich 2021

Image ~ June 20, 2023 ~ Zoltán Németi

My pick from the Silvia Heinrich range is the entry level blaufrankisch. The more expensive ones are a bit too oaky for me (my common complain about Burgenland reds), but this is lovely.

Supermarket wines: Auchans Montagne Saint-Emilion 2020

Image ~ June 16, 2023 ~ Zoltán Németi

Auchans own label called Pierre Chanau is quite reliable, at least that’s my experience from the last few years. Except a few underperforming bottles I had mostly good to very good ones, and many are great values. This Montagne Saint-Emilion is another well-made wine. Continue reading →

Dorli Muhr Carnuntum 2019

Image ~ June 9, 2023 ~ Zoltán Németi ~ 1 Comment

Before our visit to the winery this spring I only tasted a few wines from Dorli Muhr, one of the top blaufrankisch producers of Austria. They were quite different from other Austrian reds and it all made sense when we met her in the cellar. Go visit wine producers! Continue reading →

I could simply repeat what I wrote about the previous vintage of this wine. A humble, cheap little wine, but expressive and delicious, I love it.

Pure pleasure: Ferraton Père & Fils La Tournée Rouge 2020

Image ~ May 30, 2023 ~ Zoltán Németi

Just a €7 syrah-grenache from the Languedoc, but so enjoyable that I’m tempted to call it the wine of the month.
