Muscadet with age – Jo Landron le Fief du Breil 2013

My wine collection is humble, with less than 200 bottles in my two wine fridges perhaps. The wines I tend to forget about are mostly the whites, there are quite some already which I planned to open years ago. If the majority hold as well as this Muscadet, then I should not worry.

It develops nicely. In a way, this is still your typical, citrusy, crisp and lean Muscadet, like the young ones, but age has added toasty notes, a hint of brushed apples, and mellowness to the palate. Still, it’s very acidic, bone dry and austere. It’s a bit like a Champagne without the bubbles. It ain’t complex, quite restrained, but there is length and something charming, classical about it.
