Tasted at the same event as the Wendouree shiraz, this is another amazing wine from Down Under. I bet this would not look out of class when placed next to the very best syrah from France…
Stunning. Bright and red fruited, with some hibiscus and smoked ham savouriness. A hint of Hunter semillon in the aromatics, quite interesting. Elegant, graceful, almost weightless, hardly medium-bodied. Pinot-like in a way, but it has a creamier texture. Proper, but not marked tannins, alcohol is a tad elevated. A nuanced, detailed wine, the complete opposite of the ripe and big Barossa shiraz. What an intense flavor and length of aftertaste. Brilliant wine with such a unique character. 96 points. I’m afraid this is another Oz gem that’s not available in Europe or UK.
By the way, it’s closed with a screwcap, not a dirty piece of bark.
