Monastrell is one of the most often featured wines on this blog, and I cannot believe I have not posted about the Juan Gil yellow label yet. An amazing wine from vintage to vintage and one of the greatest buys in the world when it comes to red wines.
Textbook monastrell. Full-bodied richness, big flavor, but the savage nature of the variety makes it savoury. Dark, ripe, dried plums, black cherries, medlar meet extra dark chocolate and earthiness on the nose. Real depth and concentration here. Full and mouth-filling on the palate, smooth and tight at the same time, with beautiful firm tannins. It’s big and seductive but quite pure actually, no oak in sight. It offers so much to enjoy. 89 points. Great value at €6.90, stockist: Decantalo and many more. Drink now.
