When tasting through the wines of Famille Gonnet in their pretty shop in the heart of Chateauneuf-du-Pape (the town itself), their rosé really impressed me. More so, than some of the reds… I had to buy a bottle and try it back in my apartment in Avignon. Those fun nights…
Elegance and finesse are the hallmarks of this wine. Almost as delicate as Provence rosés – it has some lushness, a nice, creamy texture, the warmth of the climate, but it has drive and acidity too, no heaviness here. Bone dry, with lovely phenolic touch on the finish. Peaches, almonds, tangerines in its refined scent. I really enjoyed it, a lovely drink – perfect for what it is.
Rating: good to very good, 87 points. In its class: 9/10.
Price: Around 8 Euros locally, if memory serves.
Value: Great, I would happily buy more.
Drinking window: this year.
Source: I bought it in the domaine’s shop in Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
