A bit of nostalgia, this wine was available in Hungary many years ago, imported by Bortársaság. Then supply discontinued, sadly, but I spot it in the Vinatis webshop when ordering some Loire reds, so here we are.
A textbook Southern Rhone red. Pure and a bit restrained but if you like the appellation you won’t be disappointed. Ripe and dark, displaying classic bitter black currant notes, and after aeration a raisiny edge. Smooth and broad on the palate, the texture is refined, supported by well measured tannins – it has grip but still easy to drink. Not a showy one, but detailed and authentic, very nice for the category. Good, recommended, 86 points. Drink now or to 2024. Source: own purchase.
