The bad thing about Hungarian rosé is that it mostly tastes artificial, no wine lover would drink these. The good thing about it that it is cheap – most are in the 3-6 Euros range -, and the good ones cost the same as the bad ones. Here is an example.
Konyári is one of the only few quality producers from the South bank of Lake Balaton, and rosé is one of their most stylish wine. Beautiful packaging, it comes with a screwcap. A perfect everyday Rosé, refreshing, clean and crisp, round, without the sharpness of its peers (Hungarian Rosé is often angular, low acidity never an issue here). Well put together – you probably couldn’t tell it’s based on Bordeaux varietals, and that’s a good thing. Pretty cherry, peach notes, no artificial bubble gum around. It’s elegant, juicy, definitely not the dilute average Rosé.
Rating: really good Rosé, 85 points.
Price: 1790 HUF, around 5-6 Euros (available at Bortársaság).
