Unusual for a dry Tokaji furmint. At a mere 11,5% ABV it has some a bit of resemblance to Aussie riesling or perhaps Hunter Valley semillon, and I love that – so much so that I would be happy to see similar furmints in the future.

Péter Pince Mester-völgy Furmint 2023

An early harvest, lean style of furmint – and it works well. It’s steely, tight, but not angular. Great intensity, celery, white pepper aromas. This has tension, crisp acidity, but no sharpness, and I think that’s because the ABV is low (11,5%) – high alcohol makes high acidity drying and coarse. This is focused and elegant, and so interesting. Very good (88 points). 11€ (winery webshop, current vintage is 2024).
