A cheap wine from Lidl that over-delivers in most vintages, I liked this 2018 quite a lot back then (gave it 87 points three years ago, see here), so I stocked up on it. I still have a few bottles and it is almost 8 years old – I bet most entry level wines under 5€ would be way over the drinking window (except Bordeaux and perhaps Rioja reds!). But not this one.
Lidl’s Corte Alle Mura Chianti Riserva 2018
This is not even tertiary at this point, but has come together nicely. That ageability might be attributed to the oak aging, and those smoky notes are well integrated now. It has a Tuscan character, a bit of leather, dried meats, and a seamless palate with pleasantly grippy tannins. Offering a lot of flavor for the price, this is an enjoyable everyday red. Drink now, but no hurry, it will keep for 1-2 years. 86 points.
