I believe this wine wasn’t fermented in the common Beaujolais way (i.e. with semi-carbonic maceration), and it’s different, indeed.
It’s so earthy on the nose that it’s verging on faulty (geosmin taint would be my guess), but it’s not overly distracting and you almost forget it when you take a sip. It tastes exactly like red Burgundy: compact, tight and graceful. Beautifully textured with great, chewy tannins on the finish. With cleaner aromatics I would really love it and rate it higher. 84 points. Stockist is 8wines.com, € 18.63.
