Heimann Stílusgyakorlat Kadarka 2017, Szekszárd

Heimann, the leading estate of Szekszárd was one of the first Hungarian producers who invested in the revival of Kadarka. That translates to finding better clones and the ideal way of vinification. This is an experimental batch.

Clearly an above average Kadarka. It could be even better without the oak, which is overwhelming this fragrant variety (new Kádár Hungary oak was used, a mistake I think). Too much coconut and sweet spice here. But there is a lovely, classically red fruited Kadarka underlying, which is still delicate but has a bit more structure and flavor as it’s usual for variety. Balance is great, it’s nicely rounded, and it has length, which is not something you can always find in Kadarka – they are often just dilute table wines, but you don’t have that feeling here. It’s a promising one.

Price: approx. 13 Euros in Hungary, at Bortársaság.
