Old kadarka vines in Szekszárd at the Márkvárt Pince

Hungary has a long history of winemaking but it does not have many old vineyards – the 20th century wasn’t kind to us. But you can see a kadarka plot in these pictures (click on them to enlarge), planted in 1935.

It’s in Szekszárd and called the Jobb Remete single vineyard and it’s one of the most beautiful ones in the country. It belongs to the Márkvárt family and yields a wine that is blended into their estate kadarka (see bottle image below), which is a great example of the variety. I can only recommend it!
