According to the back label, this is a vino novello, i.e. an easy drinking wine. That’s how Italians call such reds. But this ain’t a simple drink, not at all…
Nebbiolo, pinot noir, sangiovese and barbera – an unusual blend. You can’t miss that it’s Australian, menthol hits first, but there is something Italianesque about it, with that cherry marked savouriness and tomato leaf character. Rebarbara, red plums appear too. It’s like a Hungarian kadarka on steroids: fragile and easy to drink, but has great intensity and lots of flavour at the same time. Cheerful, juicy and complex, this is an amazing wine.
