The Brouilly 2019 last time was not my favourite wine from Richard Rottiers, but the current Moulin-á-Vent (2021) is again outstanding, the kind of wine which makes me a fan and follower of this top Beaujolais producer.
This is fine wine. It’s about nuances, finesse and character, not power. Old school, dusty nose, dark fruited and Gigondas-like in a way, think licorice and ripeness. Lightness from the low alcohol (12,5%), yet it’s structured, serious and full of flavour. Soft acidity and firm tannins, a perfect balance. Just a little hibiscus lift to the aromas from the semi carbonic method. As charming as a great Burgundy. Outstanding (91 points), great value for 17,41 €. Stockist: Vinatis in UK and Europe, source: own purchase.
