Siller is an easy drinking, traditional pale red wine style once widespread in Hungary, well pre-dating rose. It’s hard to find these days, and the ones I tried in the last few years weren’t that convincing, except one, the Piroska siller (reviewed here), which is made from top quality grapes – not a common thing at all.

Tüske Pince is a lovely producer of Szekszárd, offering unforced and well balanced reds at more than fair prices. Their siller is a great example of the genre, light, red-fruited and quite savoury. Simple but reflects the terroir with its cheerful and round nature. No tannins here, a bit short on the finish, this is really meant for quaffing and nothing more. 84 points, OK wine, around 5 euros in webshops, supermarkets. It’s worth a try, but probably not a re-buy. Source: own purchase.
