Drinking in Avignon, wine #8. Yet another Southern Rhone appellation which I have not heard of, Roaix. But while that pretty Seguret made me a fan, this time I was slightly disappointed.
13,5% alcohol, I don’t often see that on Southern Rhone reds these days. But that’s the best part, it’s an easy going, quaffer type wine without the depth I expect from a Rhone Villages. Olives on the nose, with some underlying, fresh red berries. Lightish bodied, less tannic than it’s usual for such wines. Balanced, yes, easy to drink too, but too simple for the price.
Rating: correct, serviceable, 83 points.
Price: around 6 euros.
Value: poor. Plain Cotes du Rhones often deliver this quality at half the price.
Drinking window: 2019.
Tasted: in May, 2019.
Source: I bought it.
