Made by Pagos del Rey, this is a bold red that might appeal to many. Not my preferred style, but I enjoyed a few glasses.
Pagos del Rey ‘Gran Bajoz’, Toro Vinas Viejas 2021
A traditionally ripe and oaky Toro. Dark and intense, smells black and while oak gets the main stage the fruit almost matches it. It will always be oaky but I can imagine that in a few years in will integrate better. Though not really concentrated, this is full-bodied and creamy in texture. Hedonistic but not sweet and luckily not too extracted, it’s round and surprisingly drinkable. Quite good, 87 points. 2500 HUF (6,5 EUR) in Lidl, good value. Ready to drink but it can be safely aged for a few years and might even improve.
