After such a fantastic Pinot Gris, it should not come as a surprise that Luxemburg can also excel in Riesling. Yet I was blown away by this wine.
The Berna Palmberg Riesling 2017 reminds me of examples from Wachau, with its riper, warmer style. Perfect varietal character and clarity. Yellow fruits, probably some mango on the nose. A slightly fuller body without heaviness, great drive and lots of flavor. So precise and fresh, it drinks perfectly, but make no mistake, this is a complex, serious wine. Pitch perfect in its class.
Rating: outstanding wine, 91 points.
Price: 12 Euros by the case in the producer’s webshop.
Value: stunning. I think it’s comparable with Austrian Rieslings at 2-3 times this price.
Drinking window: now-2024
