I don’t drink sweet wines often, but this is really a category Hungary excels in. This late harvest beauty comes from the north bank of Balaton, and it’s singing at the age of 15. Quite a shame that don’t produce it anymore, at least I cannot remember vintages newer than this one.
A bottle shared by a friend, no one knows how was it stored. Dark amber color showing the age, but it’s not just alive, it’s great. So concentrated and intense, I would probably guess a 6 puttonyos Tokaji Aszú, if tasting it blind. RS can be around 200g/l. Quince jelly, dried apricots, old flower honey and some forest floor on the nose, quite mature. Very viscous, but with high acidity – it’s rustic rather than elegant, but delivers real hedonistic pleasure. Drink now, although it might live for many more years.
