The little brother to the famous Super Tuscan Grattamacco, Rosso is already a serious wine, and a great value, too.
It closed down a bit since I tasted it in 2019 September, but it’s still in a good shape. Smells rather like an Italian red than a Cabernet blend, displaying mulberry, black olive and basil notes, but has the confidence and the structure of a St Emilion red. Quite pure, oak is unnoticeable. Great balance, elegance and power in equal measure. Dense midpalate and firm tannic backbone, without a rustic edge – this is quite refined, delivered in an effortless way. Savoury, classic Old World style – outstanding wine. Drinks well but also can be cellared for 5 years.
