Drinking in Avignon, supermarket wine #5. After yesterday’s Beaumes-de-Venise, here is another lesser-known Southern Rhone appellation, Séguret. I admit I have never heard the name – but after trying this wine, it’s definitely on my list.
Domaine Corpet Louvet, Séguret Cotes du Rhone Villages 2018
It’s quite closed, opens very, very slowly – it only becomes ready on the 3rd day. But then it’s a winner. Lovely freshness, cassis fruit, it sits in the red-blue spectrum. Some pretty raspberry notes. A nice, smooth texture, good balance on the palate, the finish is quite firm and tannic. Exceptionally fresh for a Cotes du Rhone, it’s far from the raisiny side – I’m actually surprised to see it has 15% alcohol. A lovely, elegant wine with ample structure.
Rating: good to very good Rhone red. In its class: 8/10, on the absolute scale: 87 points.
Price: Can’t remember, probably 8 Euros.
Drinking window: I would not open it before the end of 2019 (2020-2022).
Value: Great. I would buy a case if I could.
Source: I bought it in a shop in Avignon.
