I like cabernet franc, especially when it comes from the Loire-Valley. Single variety wines are also made from it in Tuscany and some of them are true supertuscans – serious wines with fame and a hefty price tag. One of them is Paleo which I tasted in the past, and I always wanted to try another icon, the Duemani.
It was opened on a tasting event with friends, following many famous bottles. We tasted it non blind and my company was not impressed at all. High expectations might be part of that (it’s 135 €). I rated the wine higher, but I could see their point. It lacks some charisma.
Ripe, dark, yet surprisingly leafy. Lots of green notes. Nutmeg-like oak, that smells expensive. The best part is the palate: it’s dense, concentrated yet somehow weightless at the same time. Super smooth. Soft acidity and firm, perfect tannins. Very refined, although there is a touch of heat on the finish. My complain is that it’s made in the international style, it’s not too exciting. 91 points.
